SL Shanth Kumar has been a photojournalist since 2002 when he started with The Indian Express newspaper. Currently, a Chief Photojournalist with The Times of India in Mumbai, Shanth has won several prestigious awards for his work including the 2009 Canon Chennai photojournalist of the year award, the 2012 Wisden cricket photo of the year award at Lord’s ground in London, Better Photography Best Indian Photographer of the year in 2011, 2012 National Photo Competition, 2016 Environmental photographer of the year award from the royal society of London, 2017 Best news photo of the year in National press photo Awards including awards for photography showing environmental degradation. 2018, Government of India professional photographer of the year National photo award, 2018 Asian journalism award EPTOY by environment Singapore council, 2019 EPTOY by CIWEM, 2020 Photographer of the year Asia Covid Picture story and Spot news and 2020 2nd place in water by HIPA, POYI 2022 award of excellence in general news.

Having had a traumatic childhood and a tough life as a young adult, Shanth Kumar is naturally drawn to highlighting issues with the younger age group.
