India’s active COVID-19 caseload has surged to 3,395, with Kerala (1,336), Maharashtra (467), and Delhi (375) reporting the highest numbers, according to the latest Union Health Ministry data. Four new fatalities—one each in Delhi, Kerala, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh—were recorded in the past 24 hours.

Low Severity, No Major Concern
Health officials have assured that most patients are under home care, with infections being mild. “The situation is being closely monitored, but there is no reason to worry,” official sources stated.
Omicron Subvariants Detected
Dr. Rajiv Bahl, Director General of ICMR, confirmed that genome sequencing has identified four Omicron subvariants—LF.7, XFG, JN.1, and NB.1.8.1—driving the surge, primarily in western and southern India. “The dominant strains (LF.7, XFG, JN.1) are not severe. We remain vigilant, but there’s no cause for alarm,” he said.
