Congress Demands All-Party Meeting, Special Parliament Session

New Delhi: Following the agreement on a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, the Congress party has reiterated its demand for the government to convene an all-party meeting and a special session of Parliament. Notably, two all-party meetings have already been held in the last two weeks after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, though Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not attend either.
After the ceasefire announcement on Saturday evening, the Congress once again called for an all-party meeting, insisting that PM Modi should chair it.
Following US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, the Congress stated on Saturday that an all-party meeting chaired by PM Modi and a special session of Parliament should be convened immediately to demonstrate national unity and collective resolve.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, in a post on social media platform X, wrote: “After the unprecedented developments in Washington D.C., it has now become a national imperative for the Prime Minister to chair an all-party meeting and take political parties into confidence to safeguard national interests in this critical time.”
He further added that a special session of Parliament should be called without delay to discuss in detail the events of the last 18 days—from the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam to the current situation—and to chart the future course of action.
