Parliament’s Monsoon Session to Begin Tomorrow; Government Seeks Opposition Cooperation

New Delhi, July 20, 2025

India’s Parliament is set to commence its Monsoon Session tomorrow, July 21, with the government making last-minute preparations to ensure productive proceedings. The session, which will continue till August 21, will see a total of 21 sittings, though no meetings are scheduled between August 12-18.

All-Party Meeting Today: BJP National President JP Nadda has called a crucial all-party meeting this morning at 11 AM in Parliament’s Main Committee Room.  The meeting, to be chaired by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, aims to build consensus on the session’s agenda and ensure smooth functioning of both Houses.

Seven pending bills, including the Jan Vishwas Bill 2025 and National Sports Administration Bill 2025, are slated for passage. Eight other bills have been listed for discussion, including the Merchant Shipping Bill 2024.

Minister Rijiju revealed he has held “positive discussions” with opposition leaders, including Congress’s Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi.

As Parliamentary Affairs Minister, it’s my duty to maintain coordination with all parties,” Rijiju told reporters yesterday.

The opposition has signaled it may raise issues like price rise and unemployment during the session.  The government hopes to avoid the frequent disruptions that have marred recent parliamentary sessions.

Likely to see heated debates as the government tables its legislative priorities.  Session runs till August 21, with a break in the second week of August.

With crucial bills on the agenda and general elections approaching, this session could set the tone for the government’s final year in office. The all-party meeting today will test whether the treasury and opposition benches can find common ground for constructive debate.
