Despite agreeing to a ceasefire following mediation by U.S. President Trump and his tweet, Pakistan broke the truce within just three hours. The ceasefire between India and Pakistan was supposed to come into effect at 5 PM on Saturday. However, by around 8 PM, Pakistan resumed indiscriminate firing. Reports of explosions and gunfire emerged from Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir, prompting Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to post on social media platform X: “What kind of ceasefire is this?”
In another post, Abdullah wrote: “This is no ceasefire. Air defense units in Srinagar have been reactivated.”
Meanwhile, reports indicate that a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was killed, and seven others were injured in firing from the Pakistani side along the Line of Control (LoC). Pakistan targeted areas in Jammu and Kashmir, including Akhnoor, Poonch, Nowshera, R.S. Pura, Samba, and Udhampur. Shelling and mortar fire were reported in Rajouri, while a drone attack in Udhampur was foiled by the Indian Army.
Pakistan, however, has accused India of violating the ceasefire and claimed that India carried out a drone strike in Peshawar, which was allegedly shot down by Pakistan’s air defense system.
Following the ceasefire announcement on Saturday evening, blackout restrictions were lifted in border areas of Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, and Punjab. However, after Pakistan’s renewed firing in Jammu & Kashmir, blackout measures were reinstated. Reports also suggest that a Pakistani drone was spotted and shot down in Pathankot, while another was sighted in Gujarat’s Kutch. India has once again activated its air defense systems to safeguard against aerial threats.
