AAP Split: 15 Councilors Form ‘Indraprastha Vikas Party’

A significant political upheaval has occurred in the national capital, Delhi. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) suffered a major blow when 15 of its municipal councilors collectively resigned from the party.
Hemchand, Himani Jain, Runakshi Sharma, Usha Sharma, Rakhi Yadav, Sahib Kumar, Rajesh Kumar, Manisha, Suman, and 15 other councilors resigned from the party’s primary membership.
The resigning councilors have now announced the formation of a new third front, named the ‘Indraprastha Vikas Party’. They disclosed their decision during a press conference. During this conference, Hemchand Goel was declared the leader of the new front. Under his leadership, this new political organization will formulate its future strategy and work.
Several former municipal councilors, including Mukesh Goel, Himani Jain, Devendra Kumar, Rajesh Kumar Ladi, Suman, Anil Rana, and Dinesh Bharadwaj, were present during the press conference.
These councilors stated that all of them were elected as municipal councilors in the Delhi Municipal Corporation in 2022 on Aam Aadmi Party tickets. However, despite coming to power in the Delhi Municipal Corporation in 2022, the party’s top leadership has been unable to run the Delhi Municipal Corporation smoothly. There was virtually no coordination between the top leadership and the municipal councilors, due to which the party ended up in the opposition. Unable to fulfill the promises made to the public, the following councilors are resigning from the primary membership of the party.
It is noteworthy that on April 25th, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s ‘Triple Engine’ government was formed in the capital, Delhi. The BJP’s Raja Iqbal became the new Mayor and Jai Bhagwan Yadav the Deputy Mayor in the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD). In the mayoral election, BJP’s Raja Iqbal received 133 votes, while the Congress candidate Mandeep received only eight votes. The Aam Aadmi Party did not field its candidate. A total of 142 members voted in the mayoral election.
