‘Agni’ to be part of Kalam Memorial


The Inter-continental ballistic missile Agni, a prestigeous product developed by former President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam when he was part of the DRDO, will find a pride of a place in the Abdul Kalam memorial to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 27, the second death anniversary of the scientist-President.

The memorial is being built at Pekkarumbu, near Rameswaram inside

the island where Dr Kalam was buried two years ago. DRDO is

spending nearly Rs 15 crore in erecting this memorial on the 5 acre

land allocated by former chief minister J Jayalalitha . Work has been

going on round-the- clock to make it ready for the grand inauguration

by the prime minister who holds Dr Kalam in high esteem and

personally attended Kalam’s funeral .

The memorial will also have a photo gallery which will haave rare

phototgraphs from Dr Kalam’s life and career with ISRO, DRDO, etc.

All his personal belongings and various honours and medals that he

had received throughout his evenful life will be part of the collection

for the future generations to learn and understand the contribution

of this rare personalithy who rose from humble beginnings.

The 60 ft Agni prototype has arrived from Hyderabad DRDO where

he spent many years developing this wonderful weapon which is

now the pride of Indian defence forces. This was transported by road

in a long, special truck all the way from Hyderabad.
